RUSSIAN RIDGE OPEN SPACE PRESERVE - OCT. 2002

Welcome to the Photo Gallery for the Russian Ridge Prescribed Burn Site. The California Department of Forestry conducted the prescribed burn along the ridge of the Santa Cruz Mountains for the Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District.

The purpose of the burn was to free the Russian Ridge Open Space Preserve of non-native thistles and other weeds that are choking out the indigenous plants.

The photographs provide a visual account of the FireALERT field test in a grassland setting. Range testing of the equipment was conducted at distances from 300 yards to 500 yards.
